Overview
The University of Plymouth derived from the Plymouth School of Navigation dating back to 1862. Nowadays, it has over 2000 international students enrolled, who come from more than 100 countries. The total of 18000 students enrolled makes it one of the largest universities in the UK. Over 4,500 University of Plymouth students per year benefit from placements and work-based learning.
The University of Plymouth is famous for its marine and maritime education and research, but apart from those, there are other faculties: Health, Arts, Humanities and Business. It is the first and only post-1992 university to launch its own medical and dental school. Interdisciplinary health research includes links between marine biology and the discovery of novel antibiotics.
The city of Plymouth, characterized by its lively community of students, lies within an area of rich geographical and ecological diversity. From the nearby Dartmoor National Park to the Devon and Cornwall coast – one is never too far away from serenity or adventure.
